This album is also referred to as "Original Recordings". It was originally released on Epic Records, a subsidiary of Columbia, and was available on CD from Sony. However, in our most recent search of Amazon and CDNow, this CD could not be located. It can be found on the occasional eBay auction. Sony Legacy plans a Spring 2001 re-release of the album, which will include some previously unreleased material.
While he was still with the Charlatans, Dan started doing shows with his own band, billed as Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. This album chronicles the early Hot Licks era. Sid Page and Jaime Leopold, who stayed with the Hot Licks through their heyday, join Dan, along with backing vocals from Sherry Snow and Christina Viola Gancher.
Two of the songs on this album – "Canned Music", and "I Scare Myself" – appear in later recordings. "Evenin' Breeze" and "Milk Shakin' Mama" are also in Dan's repertoire to the present day.
Note: We have come across two vinyl pressings that list the song "Jukies' Ball" on the record label as "Junkies Ball".
